Florent Nicolas Wendling

Europe
Florent Nicolas Wendling is a French / American Creative director. Born and raised in Marseilles, he has lived
in Paris, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Shanghai and worked in more than twenty Countries.
He produced and directed his first TV seriies in 1988: "Draw me Europe", presenting 1400 "graphic" and filmed
interviews shot in 13 countries in a 30 x 3min prime time TV series.

America
He moved to New York in 1992 where he directed music videos and TV commercials special effects, He relocated
to Los Angeles and created major sequences for a 15 minutes film for Princess Cruises and the feature film Congo.

In San Francisco, he designed and managed interfactive projects and branding campaigns, directed a 7-month,
$17-million advertising campaign. His photography work has been featured in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times,
Washington Post, New York Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, New Yorker, Wired, Chicago Tribune, Rolling Stones,
Newsweek and billboard campaigns in the US.

Asia
He moved to Asia in 2003, photographed and filmed Shanghai's highest skyscrapers, five-star hotels and fashion brands
and Commune by the Great Wall, a modern architecure landmark near Beijing. In 2006, he presents four exhibitions:
Culture Clash, a mix of traditional chinese outfits and fashion photography. He directed the first Shanghai eARTS
digital art festival TV spot, aired on TV and skyscrapers LED screens.

Compass 1.0 preview was presented for the first time at MoCA Shanghai. Compass 1.0 / Shanghai interactive shows
and a large photo exhibition were presented at the Duolun Museum of Modern Arts in July 2008 in a solo show. In Paris,
Le Cube Digital Arts Center presented Compass Beta in April 2009 and Compassi 1.0 in February 2010. The show
has been presented five times in Shanghai's special events in 2010.



Production Coordination


Jay Xu

Asia
Born in Shanghai, Jay Xu majored in computer engenering. She became involved in art projects, providing logistic
and technical support to local artists. Jay started working on Compass 1.0 project right at the begining in 2006
and brought her local experience to the show.

She provided deep knowledge of the local culture, sourced most of the software and hardware, staffed the production's
key people, scouted special locations and made every sides of the project possible with her professional expertise:
photoshoots, interface and sound design, film editing, all special events and exhibitions production in China.


Engineering


Andrew Wang

Asia
Born and raised in Shanghai, Andrew Wang is an engineer and business consultant. His main interests are mechanics,
social sciences and photography. He helped design Compass 1.0 first tracking system, based on lasers and Arduino
microcontrolers.
He also helped develop special events and exhibitions in China.

Europe
Andrew followed the development of the installation in France and Germany, He is now based in Heidelberg.
